Addis Ababa — The Ethiopian government on Monday has reiterated its readiness to hold peace talks with Eritrea to resolve their decades-long border dispute

During his meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York, the Ethiopian Minister of foreign Affairs Tedros Adhanom accused the Eritrean government of refusing to engage in peace talks.

Adhanom said his country is ready to sit down for direct negotiations with Eritrea without any preconditions regarding to level, time or venue.

But the Ethiopian top diplomat stressed “the belligerent party opposed to these talks has always been the Eritrean side”.

According to the ministry of foreign Affairs, Tedros expressed solidarity with the people of Eritrea whom he said are continuously suffering due the regime’s “brutality and obstinacy to peace”.

Ethiopia and Eritrea fought a border war in 1998-2000 that has killed an estimated 70,000 people.

The two East African adversaries remain at loggerheads since the disputed key town of Badme had been awarded to Eritrea by an international border commission.

Ethiopia’s current leader Hailemariam Desalegn, who assumed power shortly after longtime ruler Meles Zenawi died in August said last year that he was willing to hold face-to-face talks with Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki, even if he had to travel to the Asmara.

However, the Eritrean government has yet to respond to the offer.

Asmara has in the past said that Ethiopia should first withdraw its troops from the flashpoint border town of Badme before resuming to peace talks.

Ethiopia has made it clear before, under Meles it will only negotiate without any preconditions. Ethiopia will never leave any Eritrean territory, even those high grounds captured in the last two years.
The Arab Kedami in Asmara is at his weakest point to negotiate or offer anything except to hand over Assab through his Arab masters in Qatar. What a shame!
Here is the main message of Teodros “According to the ministry of foreign Affairs, Tedros expressed solidarity with the people of Eritrea whom he said are continuously suffering due the regime’s “brutality and obstinacy to peace”.”
It is sad to Eritreans living under an Arab slave at home and under Arab slavery in Libya, Sudan and Egypt. 30 years of stupidity just to be an Abid!

Quote…..¨According to the ministry of foreign Affairs, Tedros expressed solidarity with the people of Eritrea whom he said are continuously suffering due the regime’s “brutality and obstinacy to peace”…….END OF QUOTE…

    Minister Adhanom,

I hate to be a party pooper..,but more than the boot lickers of PFDJ the opposition look at Ethiopia in general & Tegaru in particular.
When we were called for war against ¨Woyane¨ie. Ethiopians people volunteered in huge numbers..when our girls and women are being subject of rape ..at home & in neighbouring country Sudan..We are as quite as a mouse submerged in water.
We still have the remainning hatred & skepticism against Ethiopia..the country that gives Peace ,respect & Education..so, who do you want to deal…the govt. that wants your disintegration or the opposition that has covered resentment against you being You.
It is your country I do not care ,,but ,that will not help us to correct our mentality.

Negotiations on the demarkation & Isaias being brutal are 2 different issues.
Is Ethiopia genuinely scared of PFDJ launching another terrorist plot & wants peace talks that would shorten PFDJ´s life ???
But then, how about the minerals in Badme area should not those be extracted by the Eritrean govt.?

what a boaring game if these ethiopian leaders want peace n hamony b/n eritrea n ethiopia they should have to respect the final n binding decision former pm has passed singing dialogue n this one is repeating that song remember the fantasy when the decision was given that time they say “it’s beneficiary to ethiopia ………..” then it’s against ethiopia so dialogue dialogue for what hating isayas is another thing to be enemy of my enemy is noy enough

As far as, the issue the two countries are fighting for, is diametrically different

“ERITREA TO BE, OR NOT TO BE, A COUNTRY”

we would rather forget about the dialogue.

Weather Isayas agree for peace negotiation or choose absence for ever, even Ethiopia gives up Badme like Isayas wanted, for me in all sides he is the great loser and by all means Ethiopia is profiter. Some stupids Isayas suporterts may think and dare to propagate as if Isayas won diplomatically because in paper awarded Badme to which it was from the beginning it was the Eritrean Territory. But these stupids the reason they wouldn´t like to talk about other lost territories to which to Ethiopia awarded is not because they wouldn´t know Zalanbessa, Tsorona and others that awarded Ethiopia as also were from the beginning ouurs, but their silence about is, because likes to cover up Isayas´s defeat is only. So my people, don´t be behave and enjoy like a dog! Only dog is enjoys when you give it to eat its own cutten flesh because thinks it got it from other dog flesh.

So Ethiopians stubbornness not to give up Badme, not because they lost it, they know it from the beginning as that not belongs to them, but Eritreans not to claim again about that Ethiopia awarded the Eritrean territories because fears as tactical manovour is only using it Badme issue. Because they know Isayas how wicked and easily fooling like a child diplomatically. By the way in similar scenario we have not to forget as we lost many own Islands with Yemen dispute. Thanks Isayas wickedness!

The incrideble part of the war is not really by ethiopians and Eritreans. And non of these two government leaders are willing for peace. Cuz they are bastard in both side which means the same group have the same root of identity. We are not lucky both countries don’t even have truely Ethiopian or Eritrean origin leaders. Both (diqala) or mix so they care about thier thirsty of power or pocket not for the land or dignity of the people. In the society don’t understand humanity those kind of leaders are disasters. Am not talking in the first world have civilization. Am talking specially in africa. Where power and corruption been taken for granted. Remember

The power house at the horn of Africa is ” ETHIOPIA” . Ethiopia has shined Economically , Militarily , Socially and in all other dimensions the last one decade . Meles had left Ethiopia in much a better shape than it was.

Border issue was not the cause of war between Eritrea and Ethiopia in 1998. Everyone knows that . Ethiopia is not going back to the merry go round with Eritrea .

Ethiopia is playing diplomatic game with Eritrea . The toothless Iesyas is going to bark as usual with no point .

He is providing service to Ethiopia through a third party (Qutar) for Asseb . And he doesn’t want to negotiate about the border with Ethiopia . What a joke ? Ethipia is benefiting from using Asseb port ,they will save a lot of hard currency . Ethiopia has to spend more than $1.5b annually for port services . So they are trying maximize their profit .

Iesayas has no choice , but to be managed by Ethiopians. But he will try to confuse people as usual .

The new Ethiopian leadership is much younger than Isyases and more educated and very flexible individuals ( Engineers , Doctors and high caliber intellectuals ) . And Isyases has a rotten brain and very outdated for 21st century .

Isesyas what are you going to do with the military at the border of bore(Asseb) and mella ? is that the reason that you created a coup attempt movie in Janunary 21 and put in jail the General who saved Asseb? what a devil ?

    It is Politics stupid.
The diplomat made perfect diplomatic speech,he is absolutely right. What kind of diplomat would like to be seen or portray his country as warmonger?( Save PFDj Bandas).
One should ask himself what does the term dialogue/negotiation mean or include?
Terms of surrender?Access to the sea?federation-confederation?economic integration?even building aberline wall will require negotiation.
Essayas Will not negotiate and will die angry but surly is good investment for the future on part of ethiopia.
