Responding to a question on his country’s efforts in becoming part of the Arab League, Saleh said the Eritrean leadership would look into joining the pan-Arab body should such steps fulfill the interests of the nation and the Eritrean people.
Malabo – Eritrea’s Foreign Affairs Minister Osman Ahmed Saleh stressed the importance of Afro-Arab partnership in protecting the region from foreign interference, which he said works to implement its own agendas and has caused the wave of terrorism to spread across the world.
In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Saleh said that the Afro-Arab coalition was determined to call for reforms in the United Nations and the Security Council, stressing the need to dedicate two UNSC permanent seats to Arab and African states.
Commenting on Iran’s continuous interference in Arab and African states’ internal affairs, the Eritrean foreign affairs minister said that his country was calling on Tehran to stop such interventions and stressed the important and solid ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Asked about the crisis in Yemen, Saleh said: “Eritrea supports Saudi Arabia and works with the Kingdom within the framework of the anti-Houthi alliance,” adding that both countries were looking towards the achievement of peace and stability in war-torn Yemen.

The Eritrean foreign affairs minister said that the security and stability of the Red Sea region falls within the responsibility of neighboring Arab and African states, calling on the concerned countries to work within a strategic partnership to strengthen the region’s economy and diversify its investment and trade opportunities.
“Afro-Arab partnership is highly important,” he said.
“Eight Arab countries are located in the African continent; consequently, cooperation between Arab and African countries will achieve security and stability because we are all tired of foreign interference by Europe and the United States,” Saleh added.

There are more than 200,000 young ladies from Ethiopia working in rich Gulf States as domestic workers. Thanks to them and to those who give them employment opportunities, many poor families, mostly from rural Ethiopia, now can send their kids to schools. Although in recent years Ethiopia has done relatively well economically, traditionally, the country is known for its extreme poverty.

Ethiopia is not a Habeshaland any more, the non-Habesha are the majority. It’s not even a Christian nation anymore, that thing has become history forever. Now it’s a secular nation, were all religions are treated equally. Ethiopian Muslims have opened their eyes wide, they have come to know that they are not a minority so they deserve equal share in everything, in particular in government bureaucracy at federal level. All these and many more issues will make Ethiopia a country that lives in peace internally and puts an end to its jingoist policy of Habesha ruling classes.

Behind the pan-Habesha propaganda here, there are a few Tigreyans born in Eritrea who are suffering from identity crisis.
They want a Habesha nation, made mostly of Tigrigna on both sides of Mereb.
What about the other Habesha, the Amhara in particular ?, well, the recent protests in Ethiopia has shown that the two groups cannot live together without one trying to dominate the other.
Ordinary Eritrean Habesha I know, think they can share culture, but not politics with Tigray other than good neighborliness once the border is demarcated.
Eritrean nationalism is very strong among them. Besides, Higdefs leaders (many of whom happen to be of Tigreyan decent) are a good example of what these people can do to marginalize them. The plight of Tigreyan Muslims is horrible, they cannot even open their mouth on any issue that concerns them. This doesn’t mean other Tigreyans are enjoying democracy, far from it, Although the Weyanes are better than Higdef in many ways, but when it comes to politics they are as cruel as their comrades in Asmara. If you disagree with them you can survive only if you go to Addis, where there is a bit of freedom, because there they cannot everybody’s mouth shut. I think this pan-Habesha nation, if it had any chance to see light of the day, it would not be better than Iseyas’ Eritrea, at war with nation of the Horn.
