TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – An Eritrean national was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in federal prison, followed by likely deportation, for his conviction earlier this year for possession and intent to distribute about a pound of cocaine, federal authorities announced.
Biniam Asghedom, 47, was sentenced by  U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler during a hearing in Tuscloosa today, according to a joint statement from U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and Drug Enforcement Administration Assistant Special Agent in Charge Clay A. Morris.
Coogler varied upward from federal guidelines for the possession with intent to distribute cocaine, finding that Asghedom had played a significant role in a larger conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin in the Birmingham metro area, according to the statement.

Negligence to abide by law destroys one’s life. This case is a lesson for others.

Two mistakes this guy has made:
    1. Living in Alabama
    2. Carry illegal substance

You do crime, you pay time.

      Hi Mighty

I think Eritreans can live any where. With our work ethic, we can live any where, except in Eritrea under DIA and PFDJ system.
This guy made the ultimate mistakes by trying to live the easy way and making easy money. Now he is going to pay the hard way.The worst part is he is 47 years old man and he should know better. Oh well!!

What ??????!!!!! What has it to do with Eritreanness ?????!!!!
He committed crime and thus has to pay for it. REGARDLESS of his being any one Eritrean or whomever !!!!

Eritreans in USA are not known to involve on illegal drug activity . And always greed has price to pay .
A man on that age can influence the
young for quick money which we have
been fighting against to defend our
credibility as community . He is a disgrace who don’t deserve sympathy
since he chose to lead his life that way.

You can not afford to cross the line if you are an immigrant but if he is a US citizen its very unlikely that he will be deported. If he is not a citizen,he is finished.I know a guy from India who was caught dealing with drugs and he is sentenced for 6 years followed by deportation but he is not a citizen either.

That is even more irresponsible job to do if this guy has kids.
