Dear Members of the Eritrean Community,

We would like to warmly invite you to attend event organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Refugees (APPG on Refugees) and supported by the Refugee Council, where we will be discussing findings of the A journey towards safety. A report on the experience of Eritrean refugees in the UK. The event will take place on Tuesday 27th November, we will start promptly at 19:00 and we will finish by 20:00.

We would particularly like to invite Eritrean refugees who took part in the original research (conducted by UNHRC and Refugee Council last September in London) and those of you who have interest in integration of Eritrean refugees in the UK.

Panel speakers are:

  • Thangam Debbonaire, MP for Bristol West and Chair of the APPG on Refugees (chair)
  • Baroness Ruth Lister (Member of the House of Lords)
  • Lisa Doyle, Director of Advocacy and Engagement, Refugee Council
  • Sasha Ali, Resettlement Officer, UNHCR
  • Ezedin Osman, an Eritrean refugee living in Nottingham and participant in the research

This event presents a great opportunity for the Eritrean community in the UK to talk about their experience of protection and integration in the UK.  It is a unique opportunity to meet with parliamentarians and practitioners who advocate for better rights of all refugees in the UK.  We would like to encourage you to use this opportunity to talk directly about your experience of integration in the UK and to influence those who are in the position to bring a positive change.

Please be aware that the event takes place in Portcullis House (address 1 Parliament St, Westminster, London SW1A 2JR, closest tube station Parliament; map below). You will need to go through security, therefore please allow at least additional 40 minutes for this. We will be starting on time, at 19:00.

Please let us know in advance if you are a refugee and require help with travel costs within London to attend this event.

Please contact: Kama Petruczenko on Kama.Petruczenko@RefugeeCouncil.org.uk and from Friday 23rd November Seb Klier on Seb.Klier@RefugeeCouncil.org.uk if you have any questions regarding this event.

We hope to see you there!
