So far, Asmara has been the venue of meetings between Ethiopia and rebel groups from the Oromia and Amhara regions.

On August 16, representatives of the Amhara Region and the Amhara Democratic Forces Movement, (ADFM), signed a Reconciliation Agreement in Asmara today. The Agreement provided for the ADFM to pursue its political activities in Ethiopia through peaceful means.

Shouldn’t Ethiopia also host a peace meeting between Eritrean government and Eritrean rebels/oppositions?

    • Michael Tesfamariam August 30, 2018

Sorry, no “Eritrean opposition or releb” exists, and Ethiopia shouldn’t be demanded to offer something that is not existing at all. Perhaps, if you are talking about those 70 plus self represented sick clowns, I am afraid nobody will see them as serious opposition other than group of enterprises promoting thier own sick regional agenda. let them make peace with themselves first before being called Eritrean opposition.

What about Eritrean rebels based in Ethiopia ?
The regime in Asmara want it’s new friends in the region forget or ignore that Eritrea too has opposition groups.
    Is that possible?
They would not hesitate to make the whole world blind to hide the uncomfortable truth that Eritrea too has opposition groups. The latter may be in disarray and unable to find a neighbor that can be trusted because they failed diplomatically, but they have learned, the hard way, one important lesson: Higdef believes not in God but in gun.

Issaias promised Abiy to work for him after he
said you are our leader . At this moment his
main concern is about stability in Ethiopia in
case something happened , he will have a
safe place to seek refugee status .

First of all the unconditional release of all political and prisoners of conscience is not a pre condition for democratic transition or democratic reform because these are all embeded in the establishment of the rule of law and democracy.
Second, although the nature and circumstances vary from one country to another, two basic patterns in the modes of transition to democracy were identified. Transitions from above occur when functioning rulers respond to an impending or actual crisis by initiating democratic reforms. Transitions from below occur when there are mounting popular pressures from the people, popular revolutions, or pact formations, all with the goal of moving toward a more democratic society.
But, how do you need a call to create democracy in Eritrea from corrupt politicians whom always struggling to boost their political businesses of enemity, hate and revange? Democracy come from honest and idealistic people who aren’t seeking self-enrichment or empowerment. To be established, democracy needs the right sort of people involved at its early stage. Like Abiy probably the best and most democracy-minded man Ethiopia has ever had in charge. He saved the Woyane Ethiopia from a civil war and now serves as an honest and idealistic civilian – exactly what Ethiopia needs at its current stage on the path to democracy.
Democracy comes from the efforts of a nation’s honest people – not from these corrupted, sell out, and Woyane stolen money made so called opposition groups what so ever politicians, As we all experienced African politics has been a matter of personality, not programs. Thus it does not matter democracy can be created out get a step for ward of one party govenment. Because one significant ingredient of democratic transitions is the creation of an enabling environment, which would permit citizens to live in accordance with their beliefs and rights without obstruction from government. One view is that the proper role of government is to create an enabling environment in which traditions and values of the constitution will be able to take root and where rights and duties are set out.
