Dry Weather in Eritrea Seen by EU Service Delaying Crop Growth

Dry weather in Eritrea delayed crop growth “substantially” this season in the eastern African nation and eroded pastures needed to feed livestock, the European Union’s crop-monitoring service said.

Drier-than-normal weather in July postponed the start of the so-called Kremti rainy season, which usually runs from late June to September, the EU’s Monitoring Agricultural Resources unit said in an online report today. Crops and pastures are in “poor and very poor condition” in main growing regions in Eritrea’s southwest, according to the report.

“The dry weather affected not only crop development, but had also an effect on cultivated area,” MARS said. “Abundant rains of early August have improved the situation, but the negative effect of the delay on this year’s harvest will not be completely reversed.”

While most of Eritrea’s north and southeast is too dry for agriculture, about 56 percent of its land area is used for raising livestock and 5 percent for growing rain-fed arable crops including grain, MARS said.

Not only the dry weather, but the dry heart of the people, the brutal heart of the government, hand in hand created this dry atmosphere where live soon seems to be dry. However, one good thing on it: namely the keremti ma’atot students who are forced to do the slave work unpaid, will be free this year thanks to the dry weather in line with the dry policy of the dry hearted regime.
One solution: replace this dry organ by some soft, considerate, people loving heart from so many variety youths who showed well above the brutal dictator…

    • Fithawi August 29, 2013

      Well said.I totally agree.

  • Suleiman Salim August 29, 2013

” but the dry heart of the people.”

    What do you mean?

    • Fithawi August 29, 2013

Well,it means just that.Cursed people with evil hearts that are condemned to tolerate the NEVER ENDING atrocities committed against them by a handful of brutes.Isn’t it a curse to witness mothers as old as 60 spy on their neighborhood kids whether they desert the slavery or not and report to the regime. What about the large diaspora population who could have been the voice of the voiceless that prefer to work strongly so that the shifta regime continues its reign of terror against these coward and cursed people. They are cowards because these are the only people in the whole world that tolerate atrocities of this magnitude. They are cowards because they are cursed.
Albert Einstein once said,”this world is a dangerous place to live in.Its not because of the few criminals that commit crimes but because of the good people who don’t do anything about it”.
May God help Eritrea (ente kab seb emo terifa eya)

You sound like those ZOMBIES who refuse to see and to hear . The topic is about drought inside the
country and you talk about regionalism and others weak points of HGDFwian delusions of HALEWLEW .

The people are the foundation of the country not political element forces . Hailesellase , Mengustu
and others in our history had gone when the time of their end occurred , the same goes to current
HIGI-MENDEF regime . My sister who came back from visiting the country told me a sad story in our
telephone conversation after I brought the issue of water inside the country .
            – People are buying salty water to use for their need of cleaning their households at a price farther
to the poor people financial estimate expectations .
            – We do our five times prayer for 10 – 15 minutes at a time . But she said mentioning the names of
neighbors elder women close to my family ” they leave their home by early morning around 3.00 AM
to MEDHANE ALEM church until 7.00 – 8.00 AM to pray forgiveness , for MIHLELLA ( IZGHIYO MAHERNA…) .
Now , do you think the government are doing right thing on barking on wrong tree to WEYANE , CIA ,
KAHADTI and so on while people left behind alone to salvage themselves to find the way of survival .
GOD BLESS PM. MELES ZENAWI , when asked who was his enemy ? HIS answer was poverty of inside my country .

When the vocano lava pours on itself, its surface hardens by the continues heat of that gashing lava, doesn’t that make the peoples hearts harder and less senible to itself and others and more prone to accept any sort of…
don’t we see that.. the peoples hearts are harder.

  • Meharenazghi Merhawi August 29, 2013

The poor people to be affected by the dry weather are the masses of the Eritreans, who are manipulated by the tiny group of the dictatorial regime, but dictator Isayas and his military junta don’t care about the hunger and suffering of our people.
Do not worry our Lord Jesus christ will not leave his people to be suffered by hunger, he will give them Menna from heaven.

  • Keren August 29, 2013

The Ghedli romantics and their Arab masters used to tell us how rich and fertile, the barren Eritrea is while they were using Eritreans as their condoms hiding from their masters little rented apartments in Cairo and Khartoum.
Ghedli only proved endless army slavery, poverty, organ harvest, prisons, rape, the Arab slavery of Eritreans, inferiority of Eritrean languages, starvation, economic decline …
The only thing worthy in Eritrea are the ports which are valuable only if used by Ethiopia, otherwise worthless as Assab is now without Ethiopia.

    • mehari August 30, 2013

are you telling us eritrean revolution for self determination and sovereignty was a mistake. we shouldn’t have seperared from Ethiopia? please clear your stance. the eritrean revolution had a noble objective and that is why it got a polular support. if you are saying its objectives was hijacked by these brutal people on the throne in Asmara, I will agree with you otherwise I salute the eritrean heros of liberation and nationhood.

I gladly can response to you even If I want to argue because at least I know that I am communicating with
fellow Eritrean who introduced himself with familiar name called Mehari . Otherwise nowadays , I am little
suspicious from some commentators which become strange out of character of this forum image which I had
enjoyed for long time with straightforward principled compatriots .

        • MightyEmbasoyra August 30, 2013

I would say comments like Mehari comes from some HGDF followers. Isayas is working very hard to bring Eritrea down and will then people might choose to be with Ethiopia. However, this will not work.
Eritirea is independent country and it will stay that way.

You might be correct. Sorry, Mehari. I apologize for my mistake.

I would not put it as Fithawi did by saying the Eritrean people are cursed. But I fully understand his anger. Yosief Gebrehiwet one liner analysis about the Ghedli era could be boring but his anger is understandable. Every Eritrea that a little commonsense left in his/her brain could be greatly frustrated by the lack of economic and social development. Any sensible person could be discouraged by the lack of peace and tranquility in the country and by the absence of a government that is accountable for its actions or in actions. As the day passes, Eritrea is becoming redundant to my life. I have decided to focus my attention on my family (children and grandchildren). I try to insulate them from knowing the absurdities of Eritrean politics. The ever on going misery in the country has burned out many an Eritrean like me. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. And if the opposition groups as we know them now somehow got successful in ousting the regime, I tell you folks a movement may start to oust the ousters on the next day the overthrowing happens. This is because I do not any hope that the opposition (as we know them today) will fare any better than the PFDJ regime. That is why I am trying to wrap up my affinity to Eritrea and say good bye and live as a hardworking law abiding person in the U.S. trying to achieve the American dream. Because there are no good dreams in Eritrea for a long time to come.

    • Fithawi August 30, 2013

      Yerhwo Hawey,
I wish it was that simple but its not.No matter how much you try to detach yourself from the nation that we all affectionately call home (Adina),its not going to go away or clear up as if it didn’t exist. Its not because you and I or any Eritrean for that matter benefit from its existence but ONLY and ONLY its because where we belong to.
I have to admit that I tried plenty of times to disown and turn off everything Eritrean but it was not that easy. When you think about the NEVER ENDING atrocities, slavery, rape camp, summery execution, imprisonment without due process, lawlessness, corruption and unnecessary wars because of ONE MAN and remember the ups and downs and the scarifies of hundreds of thousands of people just to groom an EVIL MAN FOR LIFE.iTS INCOMPRHENSIBLE

  • oromay August 30, 2013

Fithawi, change your name as it doesnot match with your words. How come on earth you insult the general public? You came from the heroic society. What do want them to do?. Please donot blame the public at large, if you are eager to blame people, just blame the young generation who are shooting to kill their own people on the borders to get handouts from their masters.

  • ahmed saleh August 30, 2013

Truth hurts Eritrea , Right . What is about all the fuss from Fethawi remarks .
Our elders , religious innocents , women , youth and including patriots went through sufferings with no
justification because we gave up our right like cowards to bow our head down out of fear from HGDF thugs .
Do you thing God appreciate from failing him not to exercise the blessed power he given to us to choose
between wrong and right . Not only that , remember we also offend his territory by interfering on his
business ( Hgdfwian gathering on church in the name of GOD to defend an individual (ISSAYAS) behind the
cover of ALMIGHTY ) is big and very dangerous at the time our creator get furious on our stupidity .
Any curse ” MERGHEM ” in the land of Eritrea is based from our negligence not to follow the path of
the true Eritrean society reputation on preserving their traditional integrity since colony time .

  • abe August 30, 2013

Eritrea was “cursed” when its people chose to become Arab servants than be true to themselves.
Eritreans were cursed when they started to burn their own languages and act as foreign “Arabs” to other Africans and Ethiopia.
Eritreans were cursed when they ignored their long term interest with other Africans for a long term slavery under Arabs.
The Red Sea ports are useless if Ethiopians ignore them. Ethiopia proved that it is better off without the people who chose to hate their own languages and be little Arab slaves. Eritrea proved at a heavy price how useless it is without the Habeshas in the hinterland.
Eritrea was used as a condom for Arabs against the Ethiopians but the Ethiopians are doing better off without the Arab slaves as the Arab world burns and Eritreans are sold to slavery. Who is better?
The lies Eritreans tell: we will be better off without Issaias.
Nothing will change after Issaias unless Eritreans start to think harder and know who they are.
The question: Are Eritreans Arab slaves or they have their own identity?
