Eritrea’s poor starting form at Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup continued when they were thrashed 3-0 by a well oiled Sudan side at Machakos Stadium.
Sudan scored all the goals within the first half while Eritrea tried to get something out of the match in the second period, to no success. Salah Ibrahim scored a brace in the match with Tahir Mohammed scoring the other goal to gift the Sudanese three points and leadership of Group ‘C’.
Salah opened the scores early in the match after minutes of domination with a header from a freekick with the Eritrean defense nowhere near him. The striker then made it two with a superb left foot shot minutes later. The Eritrean defense was squarely to be blamed for the goal with Salah exchanging passes easily with his team mates.
Eritrea in their usual flamboyant but lazy passing game put up efforts to try and claw back at least a goal. The best chance of the game for them came in the 38th minute but Omar Osman failed to guide home a free-kick from Shidan Habty. Omar had been left alone inside the box but his tap went wide.
On the opposite end, they paid for their sins, Tahir Mohammed making it with a superb chip from almost 40 yards out. The Eritrea keeper had poorly attempted to lob the ball for a counter, but it never passed the half line, Tahir making the most of it.
In the second half, Eritrea pushed hard for a consolation, Samson Fitni missing a great chance, again alone in the box but misdirecting Sirakbeyeme Tsebaye’s freekick. Eritrea would have been given a penalty in 84minute after Samson Fitni had been brought down inside the box but referee Antony Juma Ogwayo would have none of that.

The outcome of the game, it is what it is. I would have loved for Eritrea to win but that is not the case. I oppose the government but I love my people and country.

This result is caused at the continuation act of Isayas Afeworki demoralization and humiliation program of our nation and people. Yesterday he humiliated us by Badme war, by Mediterranean Sea, by Sinai, by Lampadusa tragedy, and in diplomatic sector world wide until his IGAD representative in Ethiopia thrown out like a dog from the meeting, and now this result. Can any one wonder about the result, with military colonel trainer, with exile nameless selected players not by their football talent but by their loyalty to the government selected nameless players to see this result? We have not to forget, Sudan is one amongst lowest standard in African football. The question is if Eritrea was be faced Nigeria, Cameron or Ghana, what will be the result? May be 9-0 ? It is saddened, very saddened!

The problem is the time I should have been in my kifle -hager,now¨country¨ ,Eritrea ,is that I left before I could develop peaceful and mature life so my knowledge is limited..inspite the book of weledo was kept at my grandparents merebAt …ie..Paulos Queshi mihtzun & Zewdi Gwangul´s residence in Geshnashim.
¨ I know our clan that originated from Dembiya/Gonder (being children of Nigus Meron & Nigus Dembiya)..we left our ¨Akele¨ brothers at Mereta Sebene..and we ,being the ¨Guzai¨ part of the Akeleguzai…marched upto Geshnashim. The father figure of our (the brothers Akele & Guzai)…migrated with us to Dimbezan Geshnashim……Our Akele brothers used to send us food & other necessities of daily living (kind of food stamps)as we had the father with us. ….However eventhough our Clan father eventually died ..we the geshnashimites kept on collecting the food stamps that was being provided from our mereta sebene …however our brilliant brothers from Mereta Sebene decided to visit our clan father and visited Geshnashim…only to be surprised that he died few years back.So they named our village Geshna nishm…(ጌሽና-ንሽም)ንሽሙ ኢና ጌሽና እምበር ኣቦናስ ሞይቱ እዩ ንምባል እዩ..thus the name ገሽናሽም.

I Think the players succeded to minimise the risk of degrading themselves because a player with no freedom even to breathe would hardly be expected to score goals like a happy player of the regional class!!!
3-0, yes represents the state of the nation where nothing is working accordingly, why should we spect to win when we are in an absolute misey.
Don’t forget they all think deeply, one way or the other…they have dreams, visions and future dilemma in life like you and me!! Is it too much?
But one thing impressed me is..many unusual names..are they nick names? Omer, TAha, Salah….Or the others already left? Is the compass removed to entertain the few rearely heard about their whereabouts!! Amazing Eritrea today?
