* Ethiopia announced previous attack on Thursday

* Eritrea says will not be “entrapped” by incursion (Adds background)

ADDIS ABABA, March 17 (Reuters) – Ethiopian troops carried out more attacks on Ethiopian rebels inside Eritrea on Saturday, a day after Eritrea called for U.N. action against its neighbour for a previous incursion.

This week’s attacks were the first on Eritrean soil that Addis Ababa has admitted to since the end of a 1998-2000 war that killed 70,000 people. Eritrea says there have been others before.

“We’ve carried out further attacks on targets inside Eritrea. This time it’s in the north section around Badme,” a senior Ethiopian government official told Reuters on Saturday.

“We were once again successful. This strike was part of our plan to take proportional measures that included the attacks in Eritrea’s southeast.”

The official did not say who the troops had targeted, but said Ethiopia’s government would make a more detailed announcement later in the day.

Addis Ababa announced on Thursday its troops had raided three military bases in Eritrea which it said were used by the rebels. It also accused the Eritrean government weeks ago of planning to kidnap Western tourists.

Eritrea said on Friday it would not be “entrapped” by the military incursion, signalling its determination to avert another conflict with its bitter foe. It called on the U.N. Security Council to “take appropriate measures to rectify acts of aggression against Eritrea’s sovereign territories”.

A vicious row over the position of Eritrea and Ethiopia’s shared border was not resolved at the end of the war.

The Hague-based Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission ruled in 2002 that the border village of Badme belonged to Eritrea. But the village remains in Ethiopia, Washington’s main ally in the volatile Horn of Africa. (Reporting by Aaron Maasho; Writing by James Macharia; Editing by Alessandra Rizzo)

External force had never been a solution to internal problem sam. Yes DIA is number one enemy but is there no other way to get rid of him?? aren’t we getting organized to have an end to our problems?? I see this invasion as a divert and we should never give up in our hope to overcome our problems by ourselves.

I agree in that principle. Any solution instigated by foreign
forces is short lived. There is no guarantee to what would
happen afterward of it’s outcome. Ethiopia’s help to topple
the regime is welcome but we Eritreans are the only one
responsible to the issue. Sometimes it is wise to consider
the long term impact of any action taken.

I have a different take on the dangerous situation between eritrea and etiopia. Right now ethiopia is not targetting eritrean defence forces, it is targetting ethiopian subverssive groups. I think shaebia made big sychological mistake by saying eritrea is not to retailet ethiopias incursions. Ehiopia is embolden now, so it might soon test shaebia’s resolve. If full blown war is broken , I suspect tens of thousands of WARSAI consripts and YKA’ALOS are gon surrender to ethiopia. The list to abandan isaya are the high ranking generals and ploticians, because their world is gon come to an end with downfall of Isays.I believe the eritrean popules has no respect any more for this group, because there is a general feeling among the people tha those high ranking goups have betraye the eritrean people by abandaning the promise of the 30 year strugle for inependence and freedom.

The relation between shaebia and ethiopian opposition groups could be summed up in the following amharic proverb, ” YA AHYA BAL KE JIB AYADIN”

The head of the wild beast’s pride went so far that its collapse becomes obvious to the world and our people. The only question has been when? This is probably the beginning of the end!
Ethiopians have been doing their home work cautiously. Meles has proved to be astute and far-sighted statesman. The dictator smells more of Neguse (do you remember Neguse way Neguse…Eza Alem Bliashe…)
Although, deep inside our hearts are bleeding because every time the Ethiopians attack, not the wild beast but our brothers and sisters are dying. Eventually, this will contribute towards our liberation. We, Eritreans, need to come to our senses. Why all these miseries? Are we the only one who have unsettled border dispute on the planet? Are we the most cursed people on the globe? Or the worst person is driving our bus? Until when are we going to let the drunkard sole driver to make irrational decisions for millions of people? He has repeatedly showed us that he does whatever pleases him. It is up to us liberate ourselves. If we continue to hibernate the worst is still to come.
The traditional opposition groups, who don’t have any principle except power, have failed to be alternative. This is the time that the young generation takes the issue into our hands. Their narrowly-founded relationships can’t make a unified and democratic country, they need to retire. There are many who will retire with dignity and others with shame, give to anyone what he/she deserves regardles

There is no question Esayas that he is the number one enemy of our nation. But what about Ethiopia? Is Esayas also real enemy of Ethiopia like some of you thinking and commenting here? It is realy nonsense! unless the man is not from Ethiopia no one will agree with such art of Ethiopia´s provocation and aggression . If Isayas Ethiopia´s enemy was like most of you thinking, i don´t think that will be hard for them to illuminate this individual dictator? They could have done it to capture him at once, like the Turks has captured the Kurdish leader Abdella öcelan in Nairobi. If there target really be ware only Isayas´s regime to destroy, i am sure all
oppressed Eritreans will be and were be supported them. But there motive i know is different. Namely they like to reverse the independence, if that not possible atleast they like to take Port Asab systematically only. Isayas as we know is there mission main agent. Because of this if the war begins, i would suggest and warn to all Eritreans (in front line) before Esayas like always systematically starts to kill you all real Eritrean patriots, you should to kill him at primmerly before you start going defending our nation.

Eritrean People used to fight for reason not any more i was there about 9 month ago you can feel it, no one is going to defend this BLOOD Suckers to those who comes in here and telling us (Blah Blah Blah) go back and defend your master he is no more than TIGER made from toilet Paper

  • truly, Truly i say to you March 17, 2012

For most meek people if the war begins they may will consider that may will happen suddenly. But for most Ethio- Eritrea politic observers and analyzers they know the matter that wouldn´t be sudden, but well planned and calculated. So for me after i heard, that Ethiopia systematically well be occupied with 200, modern tanks, i know the war begin only the matter of time that will be. But what it surprising me is, most Western nation when poor nation Ethiopia possess, 200 modern tanks( actually it was saying bought but it was awarded for the good job in Somalia, )no single country is talking or criticizing about , but when wealthy Saudi Arabia bought 200 tanks, there were listened a lot of critic by all western medias. But what mostly amusing me is, Isayas regime about this serious and very dangerous incident doesn´t like to talk or take any action atleast to in form to international community about Ethiopians aggression, while the other medias reporting about. This is for me the clear indication of the continuation of Isayas´s systematic plan and mission that he has to destroy Eritrea and its people.

The only way to have peace in Eritrea is when we accomplished the goal of our struggle for independence which cost us close to 100,000 lives.
To give back the ownership to it’s people not less.

Ethiopia Denies Report That It Made More Attacks Inside Eritrea
By William Davison – Mar 17, 2012 3:35 PM GMT+0100 .LinkedIn Google +1 Print QUEUEQ..Ethiopia’s government denied a Reuters report that it made further attacks inside Eritrea.

“That’s not correct,” Getachew Reda, the Foreign Ministry’s public diplomacy and communications director, said by phone from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, today. “There’s been no further attacks” after a raid two days ago inside Eritrea’s territory, he said.

Ethiopian troops today carried out more attacks on rebels in the north of Eritrea around Badme, Reuters said, citing an unidentified Ethiopian government official.

Three military posts where the Eritrean government trained rebels hostile to Ethiopia were targeted on March 15, State Minister of Communications Shimeles Kemal said.

“The information is false,” he said by phone today about the Reuters report. “It’s an absolute lie.”

Local people living around the boarder have confirmed that a further attack has taken place with no resistance from esayas’s side. To remove esayas is a good opportunity to bring peace for people on both sides. The two contries can solve their problems through negotiation and understanding, if this man is removed. Negotiation can solve issues like badme and further ageements can be reached. This may include free movement among peoples of the two countries. other contries in africa with visionary leaders are working for more cooperation like economic cooperation, free movement of people with out the need for visa etc. Why not this happen between Ethiopia and Eritrea, sudan, kenya, djibuti, somalia? What will Esayas benefit by supporting rebels/terrorists in somalia, Darfur sudan, Ethiopia? Who fight with yemen, sudan, djubiti, Ethiopia, sudan? who continuously discredits IGAD, African union, UN etc for nothing? who has the vision of destablizing all contries and becoming a beneficiary out of that instead of thinking for a coomon benefit? THE ANSWER IS mad-esayas. I think by avoiding this man, it is possible to insure peace and stability in the horn in general and bewteen ethiopia and eritrea in particular. Let us hope for this!!!!! why not?
