* Ethiopia announced previous attack on Thursday

* Eritrea says will not be “entrapped” by incursion (Adds background)

ADDIS ABABA, March 17 (Reuters) – Ethiopian troops carried out more attacks on Ethiopian rebels inside Eritrea on Saturday, a day after Eritrea called for U.N. action against its neighbour for a previous incursion.

This week’s attacks were the first on Eritrean soil that Addis Ababa has admitted to since the end of a 1998-2000 war that killed 70,000 people. Eritrea says there have been others before.

“We’ve carried out further attacks on targets inside Eritrea. This time it’s in the north section around Badme,” a senior Ethiopian government official told Reuters on Saturday.

“We were once again successful. This strike was part of our plan to take proportional measures that included the attacks in Eritrea’s southeast.”

The official did not say who the troops had targeted, but said Ethiopia’s government would make a more detailed announcement later in the day.

Addis Ababa announced on Thursday its troops had raided three military bases in Eritrea which it said were used by the rebels. It also accused the Eritrean government weeks ago of planning to kidnap Western tourists.

Eritrea said on Friday it would not be “entrapped” by the military incursion, signalling its determination to avert another conflict with its bitter foe. It called on the U.N. Security Council to “take appropriate measures to rectify acts of aggression against Eritrea’s sovereign territories”.

A vicious row over the position of Eritrea and Ethiopia’s shared border was not resolved at the end of the war.

The Hague-based Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission ruled in 2002 that the border village of Badme belonged to Eritrea. But the village remains in Ethiopia, Washington’s main ally in the volatile Horn of Africa. (Reporting by Aaron Maasho; Writing by James Macharia; Editing by Alessandra Rizzo)

All of us are aware that the root of Eritrea’s problem is Isaias Afeworki. If an external force overthrows this government, all the generals and colonels serving him will thrown to the dustbin of history. They will be in difficult situation. The only option they have to save themselves is to stage a coup d’état on the leader. If they did this at least Ethiopia will stop its attack against Eritrea thinking relation would normalize between the two countries. If not Isaias and his Generals will face disastrous moment. The people is no more naive to defend bloodsuckers. Generals think about this. Why you put your fate with Isaias? You do have a chance to regain the people’s favour. If not ……

    Assenna,

The Ethiopian government has denied the recent news about a second attack on Eritrea. I think Reuters got it wrong. Check the facts again.

    • Sami March 17, 2012

      Helen
yes one official from the Ethiopian foreign ministry , Getachew Reda, said to Bloomberg news agency that it is false. But Rueters said one government official ( probably whose name wanted to be anonymous) the attack was conducted.

I have also read it on one of the local private newspaper called addis admass that there was an attacvk around Badme- Mereb setit . I think the ETHIO government does not want to admit it publicly as it may irritate international bodies.

a ruler who believes, that his soldiers are on his side, without investigating and making an deep inquiry on the mood of his soldiers in the field. is condemned to fail. this is the mistake of the dictator. he doesn´t calculate that the people are fed up of him. Let ethiopia carry its raids every day and night until the snake will be terminated for ever. We, as eritreans have not the prowes and the wherewithal of ethiopia , because we are preoccupied with ourselves in stupid matters so we have lost the trust of our people. death to the dictator and tyrann of asmara.-

It is a weekend. Are you bored, lets play a game called:
Who will be the first to betray Issaias Afewerki or the Hgdef regime?
    Will it be …:
    1. Yemane Monkey
    2. Ali Abdu
    3. Hagos Kisha
    4. Yemane G. Meskel
    5. Osman Salih
    6. Abraha Kasa (security chief)
    7. Samuel China (Gen.)
    8. wedi Gerahtu
    9. Omar Tewil (Gen)
    10. Zemhret Yohannes
    11. Ghirma Asmerom
    12. Tekle Manjus (Gen)
    13. Abdela Jabir
    14. Yemane Ghebremeskel
    15. Sebhat Efrem
    16. Al amin mohammed Siad

My answers are Abdela Jabir followed by Ghirma Asmerom.

    • Mr. T March 17, 2012

How about providing a reason for your selection? It would help us to understand if your choice makes more sense.

      • Cambo March 17, 2012

        Good question Mr. T
Abdela Jabir had been very vocal against G-15 along with Ali Abdu since 2001 but recently he had been removed from all the news outlets completely. He is feeling the cold and may be ready to jump at any moment.
Ghirma Asmerom is a very talented and capable professional diplomat. He is very ambitious and opportunist, somehow and rightly, he may feel that he had not been rewarded well enough accordingly. His counterparts in Ethiopia, Kenya and Sudan are doing very well but he had been neglected and ignored by Issaias. I feel, he is disappointed with the way things are going in Eritrea.

        • Mr. T March 17, 2012

          Cambo,

Excellent. I have heard recently that Abdela Jabir is frozen because he asked the insane dictator why he refused to allow Naizghi’s body to be buried in Eritrea or at least give an explanation for his refusal. It is a dangerous move by Mr. Jabir, and we will see what Mr. Jabir would do next or what the dictator would do to him soon. Unless they all abandon him soon, he will finish them: one of them at a time.
