    Ararat dear,
You were my friend before I was in need of friends. When times were painful and my strength was no longer enough to go on, you asked me not to give up and your worth as a friend began. You stayed in my world when the enemy destroyed it all and most walked out on me and the kids. You honored the “Hadera {promise me}” of Berhane. Now, our Martyrs will have a poetry reading day for you.
    Miss you already dear friend.

Today we lost a great human being and a friend. I came to know Ararat in high school in Asmara and the university in Ethiopia.
Always elegant and well dressed. She was also the most polite and compassionate person i have came to know.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful person you were. I cannot thank you enough. You will never be forgotten. Love forever.

    Dear Ararat
You have had a good share of struggle, being highly conscious and selfless. In exile you represent the unknown soldier fighting for justice.. I do remember when we attended together a conference about refugees in Oxford University in the United Kingdom. i beginning of 80th. Your were outspoken in raising the profile of Eritrean refugees mostly in Sudan. Farewell my dear friend.. .

I enjoyed reading her articles in Asmarino. I was impressed by her love for Eritrea and its people.
I will miss her too much.
May her soul rest in peace.

    Dear Sister Ararat,
In this world of struggle, you have done your exemplary share to be the voice of your voiceless people, and stood for justice. Thus, you have left a good name behind, for living a worth life. Very few people accomplish that grace.
MAY YOU REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!

I am heartbroken beyond words! I never had the privilege to meet Ararat in person but I always felt I knew her as one would know someone through powerful words as she walked the rest of us through the formative years of Eritrea as the nation was coming to terms with itself. I made an effort to read all the literature Ararat produced particularly the “Alena” series of articles. Thank you Ararat haftey and may The Almighty God rest your soul in peace and may He walk your family with strength in this difficult times. Your family has suffered enough. I can only imagine!
