Libyan rescuers have recovered the bodies of around 170 people after a boat carrying illegal migrants from sub-Saharan Africa sank at sea last week, a Coast Guard official said on Monday.

“We freed about 100 bodies trapped in the hold of the 16-metre wooden boat which foundered not far from the coast,” Abdellatif Mohammed Ibrahim said. Another 70 bodies were washed up by the tide, including five young children, he said. “It looks like the boat overturned suddenly, leaving the passengers no chance,” he said as Red Cross rescuers pulled bodies from the water. Mr Ibrahim said no leaks were found in the hull of the vessel, shipwrecked off the coast of Guarabouli district, 60 kilometres east of Tripoli.

In the absence of documentation, the rescue workers have been unable to make a list of victims or establish their nationalities. But the few papers recovered showed the victims included migrants from Ethiopia and Eritrea. Libya, mired in unrest and political chaos, has been a launchpad for illegal migrants seeking a better life in Europe, but who turn to people smugglers to cross the Mediterranean.

53 years have been wested by war. War is more worse than simply sitting idol. War takes back evern after it is over. So now after 53 years all the nations left us way behind and the New gernation couldnt fullfill its needs. So it pays the altimetum to joine its quivalnt world some where else. To keep Our youth at home we have to work 3 times harder than the average world ot fullfill Our People needs.

Even when there is no war we die together. Sorry bodies you didnt make it. Condolonce for all Close ones. We try Our best no ethiopian or eritreans vanishes in the sea.

Another tragic followed by another sorrow which is too much to bear. We became nimby-pumby and use to it. It seems no end to this tragic death of fellow Eritreans. I have watched a youtube in Asmarino.com a few minutes ago entitled Taste of bitter truth. It is true to its title and contents. It is amusing to see Eritrea and Eritreans to get to that low and incapable of sorting their problem. Became destitute who lost all hope and dignity, people without compass and direction. Full of sadness and sorrows and flying out of the country without any clue when they will return back. What is most incomprehension is that those very victims after those unbearable journey from Eritrea to safe place in west they have seen courted with the very group HGDEF which is the sole responsible for their suffering. In conclusion eritrean society is decimated completely with no cure in near future and it will take generations to mend. HGDEF met its target to destroy Eritrea and Eritreans and what is sad is they have a lot willingly support them to accomplish they evil mission.

Very terrible news, I feel sad and express my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.
This decades old trend of emigration had only been exacerbated by the mishandled national service and the overall mismanagement of the state of affairs of Eritrea by PFDJ juntas. The state of the struggle against the dictatorship be as it may, those of us in the western world with better knowledge, information and networking on immigration, let’s please assist these individuals either individually or collectively to ease their trek.
Those compatriots who are embarking themselves in this very dangerous and at times deadly voyages should be provided with information that can help get to Europe or the USA legally or without much odds.
Working to get rid of the root cause of the problem is a noble engagement but managing the crisis and helping those poor fellows get to their destinations safely is also a virtuos act.

dose anyone remember the old man in Asmara, who would go around the city calling for people “ teneshu” I think he foresaw the darkness that was coming to Eritrea. We need to return to God as a people and he will show mercy for our people and heal our land.
